On Monday, December 8, CEO Chad Johnson and Lady Jane’s Haircuts for Men hosted a party to both celebrate and raise funds for Channel 955 and Mojo in the Morning’s Breaking and Entering.
“I’ve got to thank everybody that came out to the Christmas wish party that we had,” said Mojo the following morning on Channel 955. “It was great to see everybody come out in support and we had such a good time.”
Though the evening’s party was a way to celebrate the cause, the day began on a much more emotional tone.
Johnson and Mojo in the Morning producer, Rachel, spent the morning at Schweitzer Elementary School in Westland to provide a Christmas wish to Robin DeJack, a para-pro with the school.
“She is kind of like ‘the everything’ at school,” said Mojo of Robin, who has three children: Jack, 16, Brittany, 20 and Samantha, 23. “She has been battling through cancer now for the last nine years and this morning we want to grant her a Christmas wish.”
“She’s just an inspiration to me and everybody that works in this building.”
Jennifer Largent – a third-grade teacher at the school – sent in the letter nominating Robin. After hearing Jennifer’s letter, an emotional Robin was led into a student-filled room and introduced to Johnson, who was also overtaken by the gravity of the situation.
“We heard that you wished you had laundry service because you can’t even walk down the stairs and you’ve been taking all your laundry to the laundry mat,” he said. “So I want to introduce Heather to you from Epic Cleaners.”
Heather announced that Epic Cleaning Services was going to do laundry and clean Robin’s house for a full year. They would also take care of painting the living room and replacing the front door – to tasks Robin needed done.
Robin was also presented with a 42-inch Plasma TV, Kroger gift cards, restaurant gift cards, gas cards to get her to and from chemo treatments and a check to help with medical bills and expenses.
